Save Guyana Forest March `95

Saxakali is working along with other organizations to conduct an awareness raising campaign and march in Guyana, lasting from two to three weeks, starting on Monday, January 1st, 1996.

Both foreign based Guyanese, and local Guyanese people will undergo the march to express support for protecting the forest in the Guyana. The marchers, starting from Berbice, Essequibo and Mackenzie will all reach up in Georgetown where a rally and a press conference will be held.

Along the route, the marchers will stop to have discussions and hold workshops in the villages and schools along the way, distribute books and supplies to schools, and so on. Topics for discussions and workshops during the march include:

• Health and nutrition
• Education
• Agriculture
• Arts and crafts
• Sustainable development
• Environment
• Tourism
• Small-scale economic activities.

We need people who are willing to share their knowledge and information with the people in Guyana, including:

• Students
• Teachers
• Housewives
• Skilled persons
• Artists
• Technicians
• Nurses
• Professionals

You can help the march by:

• Joining us for one of the legs of the march.
• Sponsoring someone who wants to join the march.
• Making a contribution to the march.
• Donating books, school supplies, food, and so on.
• Spreading the word and encouraging others to participate and support the march.

Please join us and help to make this march a success. We need as much public and private support as possible to turn this thing around.
